Father's Day

Here's what it says on the card for my dad. I think this is the best card I have ever purchased.

Dad -
The loving gifts you've given me as a father have shaped my life and made me the person I am...

Your strong sense of values, of fairness, of right and wrong are all part of me...

My outlook on life...
my sense of humor...
my interests and talents...
I can see you in them all.

It makes me happy and proud to know that the qualities in you I love and admire so much are a part of me.

You are always with me, Dad...

in my thoughts, in my heart, in the very fabric of my life...

you are always with me.

Happy Father's Day - Anonymous

Hi Deb.

Those are beautiful sentiments. I so wish I could give something like that to my dad, but ... I can't.

I will share with you the card that I got for my grandpa though.

On the front there is a picture of a rather plump lady with a sombrero on her head. She is saying "Ole!"

On the inside it says, "For Father's Day I wanted to treat you to a giant Margarita."

Well ... I thought it was tasteless, crass and goofy, so I figured it was perfect for Gramps.

Well, thanks for visiting my blog. I hope you return. I'm going to poke around yours today too.

I live in Omaha, which, in case you're not totally familliar with Nebraska, is about an hour Northish from Lincoln. Wellfleet is a blip on a map somewhere if I remember correctly, but I'm not sure where it fits into the landscape.

Well ... Take care.

Thanks, J. My dad and I have always been very close. This will have been his last Father's Day. He's dying of cancer.

Yep, been throooooouuuuugh Omaha driving to Lincoln from MA and also by plane! Wellfleet is 30 miles (I think) southish from North Platte. Sand hills country. My former MIL was born in a soddy on the ranch. Last time I was there the population was 52.

Don't ask me why I felt it necessary to use the word "Well" to start three sentences in one comment. I'm giving English teachers a bad name.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. I'm glad that you've had the chance to tell him how you feel about him. I hope I get that chance some day too.

Take care,
J

J, truthfully I didn't pick up on the "wells". I guess I really should have as English was my second in line choice to Art Education as a major in college. It's embarrassing sometimes to read back what I've blogged. My writing seems poorer with each reading! These days I write mostly PR letters and technical documentation. A whole different ballgame.

I'm guessing (and it's really none of my business, anyway) that you haven't seen your dad in some time. My daughter is 25. She hasn't seen her dad for nearly 15 years nor received a birthday or Christmas card since she turned 18. For the first 10 of those years he lived only a couple miles away. Not easy.

I guess it's the story of the 3 wells.
Well, well, well!

Sorry, that just begs for the standard reply.....

But I'm not saying it.
